While the education community is enjoying a little R&R, some of you are looking to advance your teaching careers and move up on the pay scale. As an SLP, here are some of the questions I like to ask during the interview process.
What are the responsibilities of this job? (perhaps ask for a written job description)
* Size – the number of students or clients served, number of schools, number of administrators or managers
* Will I have access to other professionals in the department?
* What is the chain of command for this position?
New Grad - CFY
1)Will my supervisor be regularly available to me?
2)Will I have Case Management responsibilities?
3)Will I co-treat with other related service providers?
4)How many students will I serve? How many campuses?(Typical caseload numbers)
5)Will I have a planning period/time?
6)Will I complete 3rd party billing documentation?
7)How is data recorded (tech/paper)?
8)What types of therapy materials are provided? Is there a budget for purchasing therapy materials/supplies??
9)Will I have my own speech therapy space/classroom?
10)Will I complete all documentation (workload) or will my supervisor share these responsibilities? (IEP docs, billing, progress reports, developing AAC plans/programming devices...)
